Pros and Cons of the Changes to UK immigration rules for International Students.

Overview
The British Government new policy was intended to reduce the massive numbers of student dependents in the UK and also stop students who have not completed their studies from switching to other Visas. This policy was effective 3.00 pm 17 July, 2023.

Pros and Cons.
1. All International students coming to the UK whose course of study starts after 1 January 2024 CAN NOT bring their dependents, either partners or children. EXCEPTS they are studying a PhD program or Masters in Research (PhD, M.Res, M.Phil).
2. All International students starting their studies in September 2023 or before can bring their dependents and dependents already in the UK can still extend their Visa.
3. International students starting their programs after 1st January 2024 can ONLY bring their dependents if the main applicants are sponsored by the Government OR If the child was born in the UK.
4. International students in the UK can no longer switch to other Visas until they have completed their courses. For you to complete your courses, you must PASS all your modules and pay all your fees. However, students can apply to switch to another visa before they complete their studies only if their employment start date is after their course completion date.
5. PhD Students can only apply to switch their visa after 24 months period of study
